57th Batch of the SPSS Training Workshop was successfully conducted at PASTIC National Centre, QAU Islamabad. A total of 30 participants from various universities, including QAU, CUST, IIU, PIDE, and NUST, attended the session. The participants represented a diverse range of disciplines such as Zoology, Biochemistry, Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, and Media Studies.

The training covered a comprehensive range of topics. We started with an introduction to research methods and literature review techniques, where participants learned how to design a research study, formulate hypotheses, and organize relevant scholarly material in general. Next session include topics like: data collection (questionairres, interviews, observations, experiments), and data setup in SPSS. These sessions guided participants through structuring datasets, defining variables, and ensuring data quality for accurate analysis.

In another session, participants explored data transformations and preprocessing techniques essential for preparing data for statistical testing. For instance, we discussed and implemented computation, recoding and missing values analysis techniques (mean-based, mode-based, mean-of-near-by-points), etc.

The analysis part began with descriptive statistics, where participants were on trained on analysing data using single-variable exploration, and multiple-variables exploration (cross tabs). Moving further, a handful number of inferential statistics approaches were discussed and practiced. The workshop included detailed demonstrations of t-tests, covering independent, paired, and one-sample tests, along with the Chi-Square test, helping participants determine associations and differences in their data. Throughout the workshop, hands-on exercises were conducted using real or sample datasets, allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios and gain confidence in performing statistical analyses independently.

This workshop is part of my and PASTIC's ongoing efforts to build research capacity and promote data-driven research practices among scholars and researchers across different scientific domains.
